Developing a conceptual
meditation app
My role: User research, Market research, Usability tests, Wireframing, Prototype, UI Design
Tools: Figma
Timeframe: 3 weeks

aims
CampFire is a conceptual app I developed as part of the Google UX Design Certificate program. It aims to make quick and free meditation sessions accessible for people with busy schedules, who want to relax their minds on a regular basis.
overview
target audience
CampFire targets busy professionals and young millennials, aged 18-55, who experience the stress of daily life and want to relax their minds with quick meditation sessions.
problem
There are many professionals with busy schedules and young people who spend a lot of time in front of the computer.
They either forget or can't remember to meditate on a regular basis. It is hard for them to spare time to get away from daily life stress.
solution
I decided to design a simple meditation app which people can use for free whenever they want to take a quick break from the daily life hustle.
I conducted audit on 4 popular competitor meditation apps on Apple Store. I analyzed the apps under 4 categories and 8 sub-categories.

personas
To understand the target audience better, I created two personas. Persona Jason largely reflects young people and fresh graduates. Every day, Jason sits in front of the computer for hours in search of a good future.
The second persona, Emily, represents a large majority of busy professionals, who have hectic work schedules and busy personal lives. They have a hard time being able to pay attention to their mental health.
user testimonies
I interviewed 3 busy professionals and 3 young millennials to learn about the stress they face in their lives. My main purpose was to understand how they cope with stress.
To gather insights from the competitor apps, I did the following:
1. I did a thorough research by analyzing the reviews of the competitor apps on App Store.
2. I conducted unmoderated usability tests with users on the competitor apps' onboarding and meditation flows. Here, my main purpose was to see how users interact with the apps in real life. I also took notes and audio recordings during the interviews.

a clutter-free onboarding
I made the onboarding very simple and straightforward. No credit card information asked, no surveys popping up. If users want to head straight to the homepage, they can do so by clicking the "Skip" button.
adding illustrations and colors
I created a color palette and a library of illustrations. I gave each type of meditation a unique personal look.
Asking for the user's name right after launching app
Recommending sessions based on user's current mood
Short and long sessions depending on user's time availability
personalization
Based on the feedback I got from the users during interviews and usability tests, I worked on increasing the overall personalization.
